Metronome's Interaction with Choice Items

Generation V

Bulbapedia has said since February 20, 2019 that "In Generation V, if Metronome calls a move the user knows and its user is holding a Choice Band, Choice Specs, or Choice Scarf, the move Metronome called will be locked by the Choice item. Otherwise, Metronome is the locked move."

On April 14, 2019, the following was added: "If a multi-turn move called by Metronome triggers Cursed Body, the multi-turn move will be disabled by Cursed Body, even if the user of Metronome does not know that move; otherwise, Metronome will be disabled."

For seven years, these claims have gone untested, and I've found that the first claim is entirely false!

This was tested on "Pokemon - Black Version (USA, Europe) (NDSi Enhanced)" running on melonDS 1.1 using this save file. The summary of the Clefairy used is shown below.

If the Metronome user is holding a Choice Item, the move that gets locked is always Metronome, even if the move called by Metronome is known by the user.

The behavior of Cursed Body and multi-turn moves is accurate. (Note: Clefairy is still holding the Choice Band in the recordings below)

Generation VII

Since multi-turn moves called by Metronome now fail on the second turn, Cursed Body should always disable Metronome if triggered by a move that Metronome called.

There should also be some interesting things with Z-Metronome that I will have fun investigating!

Pokémon Sword/Shield

This was tested on Pokémon Sword (Ver 1.3.2) (Running on Nintendo Switch 2). The summary of the Clefairy used is shown below:

Consistent with Generation V, if Metronome is used and calls a move known by the user, only Metronome will be locked by the Choice Item.

If Metronome selects a multi-turn move such as Fly, Dig, Sky Attack, it will fail on the second turn.

Cursed Body also disables Metronome rather than the move it called.
