Metronome Research

Here are the tests I have performed to verify unknown behavior of the move Metronome.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Mud Shot

It was unknown whether Mud Shot can be called by Metronome in Z-A due to the "personal_waza_param_array" table containing three entries for Mud Shot, two with the "IsYubiWoHuruPermit" flag set to true, and one with the flag set to false. (This flag determines whether the move can be called by Metronome).

After some testing, Metronome successfully called Mud Shot, which means that Mud Shot is allowed to be called by Metronome, and the entries with the flag set to true take precedence over the ones with it set to false.

This was tested on Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Ver 2.0.2).

Generation IV - Moves that the user knows

In the Generation II and IV core series games, Metronome only selects moves that are not already known by the user. In Generation II, it is known that if the user had used Mimic or Transform, Metronome will treat the current moveset as the "Moves that the user knows", not the user's original moves. But in Generation IV, this was unconfirmed... until now.

This Mew (knows Pound, Metronome, Mega Punch, and Dragon Claw) was transformed into Clefairy (knows Wake-Up Slap, Cosmic Power, Lucky Chant, and Metronome) just used Pound via Metronome, a move known by itself, but not by the Clefairy it is currently transformed into. So the set of moves not callable by Metronome is determined using the current moveset of the transformed user and not the original moveset.

This was tested on "1282 - Pokemon - Versione Diamante (Italy) (Rev 5)" running on melonDS 1.1 using this save file.

Generation VIII/IX - Moves that the user knows

In all Generation VIII and Generation IX core series games, Metronome is able to call moves that the user knows. (Note that Metronome is not available in Pokémon Legends: Arceus)

This was tested on the following versions:
